Many people suspect that things Paypal, Gofundme, and possibly others do are politically motivated, hiding it behind business plans, community rules and such, and this is only going to get worse not better. I suspect that in the near future things between the EU and the US are going to get more complicated - and I believe it would be a great idea if you separated the fundraiser efforts by at least EU and US side, and preferably EU, AU and US.
I do not know the first thing about fundraisers and such so I cannot drive one, but I know that I am not going to participate in anything seated in the EU, organized by anyone. I support individuals not organizations, and I need to be sure the funds I donate go directly to the person and do not get converted into some "other compatible cause". What the individual who should receive 100% of the donations does with the funds is irrelevant, which is entire the opposite with institutions: many times its impossible to find evidence that at least 50% of the funds were used properly. The trust-issue with the institution simply does not apply to the individual.
I hope you are going to give this some thoughts, as I am sure you are involved in many other projects besides Hubzilla. I am also totally confident that people who are experts in finances and fundraisers going to be able to propose a solution or even solutions.
